The United Nations Association of the USA Hawaii Island Chapter, in collaboration with the University of Hawaii at Hilo International Student Services and Intercultural Education Program, is sponsoring a free lecture at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 in the Campus Center, Room 301.

The United Nations Association of the USA Hawaii Island Chapter, in collaboration with the University of Hawaii at Hilo International Student Services and Intercultural Education Program, is sponsoring a free lecture at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 in the Campus Center, Room 301.

The featured speaker is Dr. Celia Bardwell-Jones, associate professor of philosophy, chairwoman of the Gender and Women’s Studies and affiliate faculty of the Filipino Studies Certificate Program at UH-Hilo.

Bardwell-Jones received her Master of Arts and doctorate in philosophy from the University of Oregon. Her research interests include feminist philosophy, American philosophy, critical race theory and transnationalism.

Her presentation is titled “Conceiving Cosmopolitanism Within the Transnational Space of Filipina Dependency Workers” and will relate to the role of dependency and care, an account of identity and further the aims of international thought.
